Even within history, there are many different subject areas that cover several periods of time. The results may not be what one expected when they thought they were studying a historical period. In a history essay, one might think that the focus would be on a particular era, but the essay might instead explore how people in that era reacted to art. In other words, it might be a much d ifferent essay if the focus was on artists within that era.Culture plays a large role in any discussion of either art or culture. It's very easy to look at an art form and compare and contrast it with another. However, it's also possible to study and evaluate a culture. By studying a culture, one gets a very good understanding of its values and beliefs, as well as its aesthetic values.Cultural differences are very different than traditional physical differences, such as skin color. A combination of skin color and facial features can create different cultural values and can greatly influence which cultures one is exposed to.For example, the International Art Scene exhibits many of the same forms of expression and expressionism, however there are differences in how it is viewed by different cultures. For instance, China is known for the beauty of their paintings, whereas in other countries, artists tend to use more abstract expressionism.A major difference in the way that a person vie ws an art form and a different culture may be seen by looking at how those cultures view art. Where a Western person will often think that art is a form of entertainment and is meant to entertain, the Chinese may see art as a form of communication. They also look at art as something that encourages reflection. In studying art history, an English composition student needs to understand that there are many subject areas. For example, they may be studying an aspect of art history where the focus is on the evolution of art through history, or they may be studying art history that focuses on a particular country or style. There are many differences between the many subject areas, but there are also similarities.
